Products Description
Silicon Nitride-Bonded Silicon Carbide (Si₃N₄-bonded SiC) ceramic plates, commonly referred to as SNBSC, utilize high-strength, high-hardness silicon carbide (SiC, also written as silicon carbide) silicon carbide, carburo di silicio) particles as the matrix, firmly bonded together by a reaction-generated silicon nitride (Si₃N₄, also written as silicon nitride, nitruro de silicio) network. This is not a simple physical mixture. Instead, silicon powder reacts with the silicon carbide green body during reaction-bonded sintering (RBS) in a high-temperature nitrogen atmosphere. This in-situ process generates interwoven silicon nitride crystals that tightly "stitch" the silicon carbide particles together. This unique structure combines the superior high-temperature strength and thermal conductivity of silicon carbide ceramics (SiC ceramics) with the exceptional thermal shock resistance, high toughness, and oxidation resistance of silicon nitride ceramics. It thus serves as an ideal solution for environments involving extreme temperatures, corrosion, and mechanical stress. Unlike hot-pressed silicon carbide (HPSC) processes focused on achieving extreme density, its preparation philosophy achieves an optimal balance of performance and cost through reinforced network construction. Globally, advanced ceramic manufacturers such as Morgan Advanced Materials, Carborundum (a brand under Saint-Gobain Ceramics), CoorsTek, and Kyocera Fine Ceramics have deep expertise in this field.

Product details
- Extreme Mechanical Properties: The material exhibits exceptional hardness, achieving a Mohs hardness of 9-second only to diamond among non-metallic materials. Its room-temperature flexural strength ranges from 150 to 350 MPa, while its compressive strength at ambient temperature remains no less than 170 MPa.
- Exceptional Thermophysical and Thermal Shock Resistance: The material exhibits a low thermal expansion coefficient and high thermal conductivity. This characteristic minimizes internal thermal stresses during abrupt temperature changes, resulting in outstanding thermal shock stability. It withstands frequent rapid cooling and heating cycles without cracking, significantly extending service life. Typical products exhibit a bulk density of no less than 2.65 g/cm³ and an apparent porosity controlled below 10.7%.
- Outstanding chemical stability and functional properties: The material exhibits exceptional resistance to erosion and scouring by molten non-ferrous metals (such as aluminum, copper, magnesium, zinc, etc.), and does not wet with them. This is the key reason for its irreplaceable role in non-ferrous metal smelting, making it highly suitable for manufacturing silicon carbide-based silicon nitride risers, silicon nitride thermocouple protection tubes, and silicon carbide crucibles.
- Composition and Dimensional Accuracy: In silicon carbide's chemical composition, typical products require a silicon carbide (SiC) content of no less than 60% and a silicon nitride bonding phase content of no less than 37%. While its purity falls short of that used in semiconductor epitaxy (4N silicon carbide) or ultra-pure silicon carbide ceramics, its composite structure provides unique mechanical advantages.
